Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley 1 Step Closer to Reality

Whether you want to see it or not, Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley moved one step closer to becoming reality this past Wednesday when Bob Arum’s Top Rank company signed the reigning WBO light-welterweight champion to a contract.

As Opposing Views noted earlier this week, Bradley’s signing was very likely a perquisite to him getting a shot at the No. 1 pound-for-pounder in the world in Pacquiao. While Arum may not come out and officially confirm he prefers to hand out matches against his Filipino golden goose to stars who under the Top Rank umbrella – the general feeling among the boxing community is that you need to be a Top Ranker to get a shot at the better Top Rank fighters.

Bradley, of course, is being hyped as a major draw on the undercard of Pacquiao’s November 12 showdown against Juan Manuel Marquez. He will be facing off against veteran Joel Casamayor in what most believe will be the perfect platform for a coming out party for the 28-year-old.

The hope, obviously, is that folks, who purchase the pay-per-view (PPV) for Pacquiao that may not have otherwise been familiar with Bradley’s work, will see him, love him, and pine away for the opportunity to see him get pummeled by Pacquiao. And to be fair, there is a very real possibility that this will in fact happen.

It’s now been a few weeks since Sergio Martinez came out and publicly stated that he would be willing to go down to 150 pounds to fight Pacquiao, however, Arum and his superstar are remaining oddly silent on the matter. We all know why they’re playing this game but, at the very least, they could have enough courtesy to come out and address the issue so that we can either analyze it further or put it to bed entirely.

And, of course, we are no closer to Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. now than we were two years ago. Mayweather seems entirely content lobbing cheap shots from a distance and bragging about how much money he earned via his Victor Ortiz sucker punch. He doesn’t want to get off his stance regarding how Pacquiao is refusing to “take the test,” and Pacquiao, for his part, seems detached from the whole thing at this point. With all of the lies, deception and contradictions surrounding that fight – it’s no wonder that fans are losing interest in the possibility that they could even put the superfight together.

There were also murmurs of Pacquiao vs. Ortiz fight – but that was mostly just wishful thinking out of Ortiz’s camp.

So, where do we stand at this point in time? It’s pretty simple.

Most likely, Pacquiao’s next opponent after his victory over Marquez will be Bradley. In a just world, it would be Martinez. And, ideally, it would be Mayweather.

Tatapusin ni Pacman sa Amerika ang 100 sparring rounds!

'Wolverine' picks Manny over Floyd

Count Hugh Jackman as among the Hollywood heavyweights rooting for Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
That’s if the superfight between Pacquiao and undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever takes place.
“Ohh!!! I have a funny feeling in my gut that Pacquiao would win that fight,” Jackman told www.ringtv.com yesterday.
The 43-year-old actor known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men series said it could be a decision for Pacquiao over Mayweather.
“I don’t think that it would be a knockout. I think that it would be a decision. There’s no doubt that it would be close,” said Jackman, who turns 43 on Oct. 12.
Jackman spoke to Lem Satterfield as the Australian stage actor, singer, dancer and producer promoted his upcoming flick, “Real Steel.”
In this new movie he plays the role of a “down-on-his-luck” boxer whose fights, all 43 of them, have ended in a knockout, win or lose.
Aside from Jackman, other heavyweight actors rooting for Pacquiao are Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Denzel Washington and Mickey Rourke.
Wahlberg often dropped by at the Wild Card Gym when Pacquiao was training as he geared up for his boxing movie, “The Fighter.”
“I’m hoping, one day, to go to the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight,” said Jackman.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, will wrap up his three-week training in Baguio City today as he prepares to shift his training in Los Angeles.
Pacquiao travels to Manila after his workout at the Shape Up Gym in Baguio, and should be sparring in Manila tomorrow.

Marquez: I Have One Goal, To Knock Pacquiao Out!

Juan Manuel Marquez, the world lightweight champion of the World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization, is training very hard at Mexico's Iztacalco Gym. Marquez took part in his second day of tough sparring, as he prepares for his trilogy fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on November  12, 2011 @ the MGM Grand Las Vegas. The fight takes place at a catch up weight of 144-pounds.
"I'm getting the best preparation of my career for the fight on November 12, and gooing there with one goal in mind - to knock out Manny Pacquiao," Marquez said.
Marquez met with a team of specialists, and devised a training plan like never before. He wants to give himself the necessary speed and power to achieve his goal of a knockout victory. Juan Manuel sparred for two rounds with Ramses Agathon, and two more with José Emilio Perea.
Regarding Pacquiao's, Marquez said the following - "Since the second time we fought (March 15, 2008), he has improved. He shows the teachings of his handler Freddie Roach, with his boxing, his punches are more technical, there is more use of the right hand, and he's matured into an excellent fighter."
"For me, this fight is about pride, about dignity. Everyone knows I was robbed in the two previous two fight. I beat Pacquiao before, and I'll do it again."
He watched the televised feed of his brother Rafael's fight with WBC super bantamweight champ Toshiaki Nishioka, which took place last Saturday in Las Vegas. Juan Manuel is convinced the judges robbed his brother of a win.
